SKILLS SUMMARY
My work experience and studies over the last 22 years has enabled me
to obtain a solid base of expertise in soil-plant-water relationships throughout
the western states. My primary focus has been in watershed management
issues and riparian ecosystems. I have a passion and commitment for
bringing people, places and concepts together to create solutions.
The following is a summary of skills gained over the years.
Riparian Ecosystems Expertise
-
Forest Riparian Coordinator.
-
Teach Riparian Proper Functioning Condition (PFC) with the California Cadre.
-
Provide field assessments of riparian ecosystem condition and suggest strategies
for restoration or maintenance.
-
Develop and provide riparian monitoring methodologies and direction.
-
Develop riparian classification protocols; collect, analyze and summarize
riparian plot data.
-
Familiar with western water rights issues.
-
Provide riparian ecosystem expertise to mitigate or minimize adverse impacts
of hydro-power or other water diversion projects.
Plant Communities, Watershed Management and Land Use Planning Expertise
-
Develop proposals and implement projects for water quality grants, including
water quality monitoring to assess accumulative effects.
-
Develop and coordinate vegetation data analysis for GIS vegetation base
layer and ecosystem management projects.
-
Conduct soil-range site correlations, inventories and mapping.
-
Inventory and evaluate runoff, erosion and sedimentation rates.
-
Plan resource management systems for range, agricultural or urban lands;
inventory plant, soil, water, animal and economic resources; identify priority
management areas and appropriate best management practices.
-
Design, layout and inspect terraces, sediment and water basins and waterways
for erosion control.
Project Administration, Budgets and Supervision Expertise
-
Develop annual work plans and project implementation schedules.
-
Identify equipment and supply needs.
-
Initiate interagency volunteer programs to ensure project completion.
-
Supervise and train employees.
-
Secure additional funding through successful grant writing.
-
Manage budgets from 17k to 450k, successfully overseeing allocations and
expenditures.
Ability to Communicate with Diverse Groups
-
Initiate Rangelands Steering Committee and subsequent Rangelands Workshop.
-
Coordinate activities with and disseminate information to general public,
farmers, ranchers, co-workers, employees, researchers, various federal,
state and local entities.
-
Coordinate groups of students, researchers professors, farmers, and funding
agencies for graduate studies, senior theses, and volunteer work programs.
-
Develop and conduct tours and training workshops for Research Natural Areas.
-
Provide direction during transition periods for a domestic violence intervention
organization.
-
Coordinate environmental education programs as a board of director for
a youth resource camp.
-
Worked with an urban taskforce developing riverpark path designs and openspace
pathways.
